Ashley & David’s Rainhill Hall Wedding

Some weddings feel like the perfect fit from the very first conversation. For us, that was Ashley and David.

We first met at a wedding fayre at Rainhill Hall and immediately hit it off. When they told us their wedding date was 6.6.26, they joked about it being almost “666” and whether that might be a devilish omen.

Then I told them my name was Damian.

Their reaction was priceless. With plenty of laughter, they said it simply had to be!

As we chatted, another connection emerged. Ashley’s surname, Kinsella, was also Victoria’s grandmother’s maiden name. Victoria is my wife, so this lovely coincidence made an already warm introduction feel even more personal.

Ashley and David booked us that very same day, and we couldn’t have been more excited. From that first meeting, we were looking forward to capturing their wedding at Rainhill Hall.

A morning full of anticipation

We arrived at Rainhill Hall nice and early for our usual checks, setting up lighting and catching up on any last-minute changes before joining Ashley for bridal preparations.

Ashley and her wedding party had stayed overnight in a room beneath the chapel. From what we heard, music, the odd tipple and time in the hot tub had helped everyone enjoy the build-up and share those pre-wedding nerves.

By the time we arrived, preparations were in full swing. Ashley was with her hairstylist and already looking radiant.

With a content creator there too, some synchronised dancing brought plenty of laughter! We captured the energy of the morning alongside quieter moments and carefully composed portraits.

Catching up with David

We joined David in his room, where he was already dressed and looking incredibly smart. There was time to chat about how he was feeling and capture a few portraits before he headed off to meet the registrar.

As a father-and-son photography team, we love being able to capture both sides of the preparations. It gives our couples a glimpse of the moments they spent apart before coming together for their ceremony.

A chapel ceremony from two perspectives

Rainhill Hall’s stunning chapel is a space we always love photographing. Its layout gives us the opportunity to capture a ceremony from two complementary perspectives.

Damian was at the front, watching for emotion, intimate glances and those little exchanges between Ashley and David. From the elevated balcony at the rear, Danny had a wonderful view down the aisle, capturing the wider scene.

David waited nervously as Ashley walked gracefully towards him. Their ceremony was a beautiful reflection of their love and friendship.

And they had one more moment in store! As they walked back down the aisle together, they stopped for a dip kiss, to the delight of their guests.

It was a perfect reminder of why we keep watching and stay ready. Some of the best photographs happen in an instant.

Confetti and celebrations

Outside Rainhill Hall’s main entrance, we arranged their guests in two lines to create a confetti guard of honour.

Then the fun began! Ashley and David walked between them, laughing as the confetti flew. Everyone was part of the celebration, and their joy was a pleasure to capture.

Next came the all-important photograph of everyone together. The couple wanted this on the lawn, so we brought out our ladder to get a raised perspective before working through the family photographs we had planned together beforehand.

We usually suggest around ten group combinations, depending on what matters most to each couple. A manageable list helps keep things flowing and leaves more time to enjoy being with your guests.

A sword, a cork and plenty of laughter

The master of ceremonies had arranged a particularly memorable moment: David opening a bottle with a ceremonial sword as a declaration of love for his bride.

It took a few attempts, much to everyone’s amusement, but he got there! It was brilliant fun and another photograph full of personality.

Making Ashley’s idea happen

Ashley had seen a wedding-party photograph online and hoped we could create something similar using the personalised mirror beside the chapel entrance.

As the day moved along, she seemed ready to let the idea go. But not on our watch!

We took the mirror outside, gathered everyone together and used some careful positioning and clever angles to bring her idea to life.

Creative portraits with room to be yourselves

We arrive with plenty of ideas, but much of our creativity comes from responding to the setting, the light and how our couple are feeling.

Sometimes we offer a little direction and let the couple run with it. The glances, laughter and closeness that follow make the photographs their own.

That approach worked beautifully with Ashley and David, whose personalities and connection remained at the heart of their portraits.

Heartfelt speeches and a joyful evening.

The speeches brought everything you could hope for: heartfelt words, powerful emotion and laughter aplenty. Watching Ashley and David’s reactions, you could see just how loved they were by the people around them

That warmth carried into the evening. Their guests were ready to celebrate, and Ashley and David shared an elegant first dance before the festivities continued.

With thanks

From our first conversation at the wedding fayre to those final photographs, it was a pleasure to be part of their story.

Ashley and David, thank you for welcoming us into your day and trusting us with your memories.
