A Winter Wedding at Alder Root Golf Club – Charlotte & Adam

Charlotte & Adam celebrated their wedding at Alder Root Golf Club near Warrington, surrounded by family and friends for a relaxed and wonderfully personal November wedding.

Their day was full of character from the very beginning. Adam’s Newcastle roots inspired touches of black and white throughout the celebrations, while Charlotte brought warmth, laughter and plenty of personality to a day that felt completely their own.

Having met Charlotte before the wedding to talk through their plans, we already knew how important it was that the photography felt relaxed and natural. By the time the day arrived, that familiarity meant they could simply enjoy themselves while we concentrated on capturing the moments, emotions and personalities around them.

Alder Root Golf Club

Set in peaceful countryside near Warrington, Alder Root Golf Club provided a relaxed and intimate setting for Charlotte & Adam’s wedding. With its private grounds, woodland surroundings and open spaces, there were plenty of opportunities for both natural moments and creative wedding portraits.

November weather can always bring a few surprises, but that’s part of the fun. We had already explored the venue with Charlotte before the wedding, giving us several ideas and alternative locations whatever the weather decided to do.

Arrivals

Adam arrived in style in a beautiful white Rolls-Royce, immediately attracting a little attention from the golfers enjoying their morning round. Before the ceremony, we took a few relaxed portraits with Adam and his family, capturing those quieter moments of anticipation before everything began.

Then it was Charlotte’s turn. Arriving in the Rolls-Royce with her father, she brought a completely different energy to the scene as everyone prepared for the ceremony. Having two photographers meant we could capture the story from different perspectives — the arrivals, the reactions and those little moments happening in between.

Pre Ceremony

With Adam and the guests seated, anticipation began to build as everyone waited for Charlotte’s arrival. Live guitar music created a relaxed atmosphere inside the marquee and gave everyone a chance to settle in before the ceremony began.

These few minutes before a wedding ceremony are always worth watching closely. The nervous smiles, conversations between guests and little glances towards the entrance often become some of the most genuine photographs of the day.

Ceremony

Charlotte & Adam’s ceremony was relaxed, intimate and filled with the people who mattered most to them. From Charlotte’s entrance and Adam’s reaction to the exchange of vows and those first moments as husband and wife, we photographed the ceremony naturally as it unfolded.

During a ceremony we work as unobtrusively as possible, using our two perspectives to capture not only the couple, but also the reactions, expressions and little moments happening around them. Together, those photographs tell far more of the story than the key moments alone.

Portraits & Family Photographs

The weather wasn't quite on our side, but that never means the photography has to stop. We worked around the conditions, using sheltered areas and breaks in the weather to capture Charlotte & Adam together alongside the important family photographs.

We like to keep this part of the day relaxed and efficient. A little organisation means we can capture the photographs that matter without keeping couples away from their guests for too long.

And when the weather gives us something unexpected, we simply adapt. Different light, changing skies and even rain can create opportunities for photographs that wouldn't have existed on a perfectly sunny day.

Speeches

The speeches brought plenty of laughter, emotion and a few surprises. As always, while one of us concentrated on the person speaking, the other could watch the room for the reactions — the smiles, laughter and little glances that often tell just as much of the story.

One particularly personal moment came courtesy of Adam’s love of Newcastle United. With his family travelling down from the North East for the wedding, a surprise Newcastle shirt made an appearance during the speeches — a brilliant touch that was unmistakably Adam and brought plenty of smiles around the room.

These are the moments we love. They don't need to be staged or planned for the camera; they simply need us to be watching when they happen.

Creative Wedding Portraits

This was where the adventure really began. Charlotte & Adam jumped aboard a golf buggy while we somehow managed to hang on with cameras, tripods, lighting equipment and everything else needed to create something a little different!

Having explored Alder Root Golf Club beforehand, we already had several locations in mind. The autumn colours provided a beautiful backdrop and gave us the opportunity to create a mixture of relaxed portraits and some of the more distinctive, creative images that have become part of the Damtoria style.

Most importantly, Charlotte & Adam simply enjoyed themselves. That combination of personality, spontaneity and a little creativity is exactly what we want our couple portraits to feel like.

The Evening

As daylight disappeared, the celebrations moved into the evening and the atmosphere changed once again. This is a part of the wedding day we love photographing — when everyone relaxes, the party begins and we can introduce a little more creativity into the photography.

One of our favourite moments came behind the bar. During his speech, Adam had shared the story of buying Charlotte a pint, so photographing the two of them pulling one together felt like the perfect little reference to their story. Personal touches like this often create the photographs that mean far more than anything we could have planned in advance.

We also took Charlotte & Adam outside for a few minutes to create some dramatic evening portraits using our signature lighting. These photographs have a completely different feel from the natural images captured earlier in the day, giving them another side of their wedding story without taking them away from the celebrations for long.
