Peckforton Castle

We arrived early at Peckforton Castle, full of excitement and creative anticipation for Aimee and Adam’s wedding day. There is something incredibly special about starting a wedding morning within the walls of such an iconic venue.
Although this magnificent location needs little introduction, a brief history only deepens the appreciation. Peckforton Castle was built between 1844 and 1851 for John Tollemache, a wealthy landowner and Member of Parliament. Designed by architect Anthony Salvin, it was constructed in the style of a medieval fortress — complete with battlements, towers and a dramatic gatehouse — despite being a Victorian country house. Today, it stands as one of the finest examples of a Victorian Gothic castle in England, offering couples a setting that feels both regal and timeless.
A Calm & Beautiful Beginning
After arriving, we split our time between Aimee and Adam, who were preparing on opposite sides of the castle — something that certainly helped us get our steps in for the day!
Aimee was in the bridal suite with her mum, and quite honestly, it was one of the calmest, most relaxed bridal preparations we have ever experienced. The suite itself is breathtaking — a stunning four-poster bed taking centre stage, and vast windows offering jaw-dropping views across the Cheshire countryside.
Aimee was an absolute dream to photograph. She moved through her preparations with grace and composure, completely present in the moment. One particularly beautiful highlight was when she opened a very special gift box from Adam. The expression on her face said everything — adoration, appreciation, and emotion shining through as she read his words and carefully looked through the personal gifts he had chosen for her. It was a quiet, intimate moment that perfectly reflected their connection.
Laughter, Brotherhood & Bow Ties
Making the most of our early start, we moved between Aimee’s suite and Adam’s room to ensure we could fully document the story as it unfolded from both perspectives.
Adam’s room was equally relaxed — although it would be fair to say he and his groomsmen had created slightly more chaos! Jackets draped, boots on the floor, a few misplaced items… but none of it mattered. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and full of camaraderie.
Adam was carefully concentrating on perfecting his bow tie while the lads laughed and offered the kind of “support” only best mates can. The banter flowed easily, but beneath it was something deeper — genuine friendship and years of shared history. Their kinship was unmistakable, and it was a joy to capture those candid, unscripted moments of brotherhood before the formality of the ceremony began.
The Ceremony in The Great Hall
As guests began to arrive and take their seats, the atmosphere inside the Great Hall shifted. The towering stone walls, stained glass windows and dramatic architecture create a setting that feels almost cinematic — a space perfectly suited to a February wedding with soft winter light filtering through.
Adam took his place at the front, visibly composed but quietly anticipating the moment he would see Aimee walk down the aisle.
And then she appeared.
The long aisle of the Great Hall is one of the most powerful entrances in Cheshire wedding venues. Aimee walked with linked to her father with elegance and calm confidence, her dress flowing beautifully against the historic stone backdrop. Adam’s expression said everything — admiration, pride and unmistakable love.
The ceremony itself was heartfelt and sincere. There was laughter at just the right moments, emotion woven through the vows, and that collective sense in the room that everyone present knew they were witnessing something deeply meaningful. As photographers, these are the moments we work instinctively — anticipating reactions, glances, squeezed hands and proud smiles from family members.
The recessional was pure joy. Smiles broadened, applause echoed around the hall and Aimee and Adam made their way back down the aisle officially married — radiant and completely in their moment.
Castle Grounds & Winter Portraits
Stepping outside into the grounds of Peckforton Castle, the February air was crisp but refreshing — perfect conditions for formal photographs and natural portraits.
The castle’s dramatic façade offers an instantly recognisable backdrop. Its battlements and sandstone walls add depth and texture that elevate wedding imagery beyond the ordinary. We kept group photographs efficient and relaxed, allowing guests to return quickly to celebrations while we carved out time for some creative portraits.
Aimee and Adam were completely at ease. There was no need for over-direction — just subtle prompts and allowing them space to interact naturally. The result was a blend of elegant portraiture and documentary storytelling. It is always important for us to have a bond with our couples and share jokes, laughter and honest discussion and Aimee and Adam were just so easy to work with.
Winter light can be incredibly flattering when used intentionally. The softer sun created gentle contrast against the castle stonework, and we used the scale of the architecture to frame them in a way that felt grand, yet intimate.
One of our favourite sequences was captured along the pathway whilst Aimee and Adam simply walked, talked and we photographed — its always a quiet pause in the day where they could simply breathe together as newlyweds.
The Wedding Breakfast & Speeches
Inside, the reception space was beautifully dressed — mood lighting warming the medieval tones of the room. The atmosphere felt intimate despite the grandeur of the venue.
Speeches are always a highlight, and this wedding was no exception. Adam’s best man delivered humour in abundance. Laughter filled the room, but it was the heartfelt words that lingered longest.
Perhaps the most memorable moment was when Aimee's father announced the most wonderful news for the couple that Aimee was pregnant and their day was blessed even more.
Evening Celebrations Beneath Castle Walls
As day transitioned into evening, Peckforton Castle took on an entirely different character. Exterior lighting illuminated the stone walls, creating a dramatic night-time aesthetic.
The first dance was beautifully intimate. Surrounded by their guests, Aimee and Adam moved effortlessly together — the same calm presence from the morning now replaced with celebratory energy. Soon enough, the dance floor filled and the party atmosphere truly began.
From emotional embraces to energetic dance moves, the evening was the perfect balance of elegance and fun — a true reflection of them as a couple.
A Privilege to Capture
From the calm bridal suite with its four-poster bed and panoramic views, to the laughter-filled groomsmen preparations, to the grandeur of the Great Hall ceremony — this was a wedding full of warmth, authenticity and connection.
Aimee and Adam trusted us to document their day honestly and creatively. That trust allows us to move freely, observe quietly and capture moments that feel natural rather than staged.
Peckforton Castle never fails to impress, but it is always the people within its walls that truly make a wedding unforgettable.
