Rainhill Hall Hotel
Elle & Chris – A Beautiful Wedding Day at Rainhill Hall
History
Rainhill Hall is a distinctive wedding venue set within beautiful grounds in the heart of Rainhill, Merseyside. Originally built in the 19th century, the historic hall combines period character with contemporary wedding spaces, surrounded by mature woodland and landscaped gardens.
For wedding photography, that combination gives us plenty to work with — elegant interiors, architecture, greenery and open space, allowing the photographs to change naturally as the day unfolds.
Meeting Chris
We had the absolute pleasure of photographing Elle and Chris’s wedding at Rainhill Hall. Having met them before their wedding, we already had that all-important connection — something we believe makes such a difference when the cameras come out on the day.
We arrived early, giving us time to familiarise ourselves with the venue, check the light and plan our approach before the celebrations began. Those quieter moments also allow us to settle into the day naturally rather than simply arriving and immediately starting to photograph.
Chris was outside welcoming friends and family with his trademark smile. Relaxed, laughing with his best man and clearly excited for what lay ahead, these were exactly the kind of unscripted moments we love to capture — the story beginning before the ceremony has even started.
Meeting Elle
After spending some time with Chris and the groomsmen, we made our way to meet Elle in the bridal suite. The room had that wonderful mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation that always seems to arrive in those final moments before a wedding ceremony.
Elle looked absolutely radiant. While the finishing touches were being made to her hair and make-up, her bridesmaids waited eagerly nearby and we quietly captured the details, the laughter and those little reactions that can so easily pass unnoticed. Then came the dress, the veil and that unmistakable moment when everything suddenly feels real — she was ready to marry Chris.
One of our favourite moments followed. Elle's father walked into the room and saw his daughter as a bride for the first time. His expression changed instantly — pure pride, love and emotion. We didn't need to create the moment; we simply needed to be there to photograph it.
These are often the photographs that become more precious with time: brief, completely genuine moments that can never be recreated.
Ceremony
The ceremony took place in the beautiful chapel at Rainhill Hall — an intimate and characterful setting, with its striking stained-glass windows casting soft, colourful light across the room.
Chris waited at the front, still smiling and joking with his groomsmen as we captured those final few moments before everything changed. Then the music began, the room settled, and attention turned towards the aisle.
Elle’s bridesmaids made their entrance before one particularly lovely unscripted moment unfolded. Their little girl spotted Chris and immediately ran into her dad’s arms. His reaction said everything. These are the moments we are always watching for — completely spontaneous, deeply personal and impossible to recreate.
Then Elle appeared, walking arm in arm with her father. As she made her way down the aisle, Chris’s expression changed instantly. For us, photographing a ceremony is as much about these reactions — the glances, smiles and emotion around the room — as it is about the traditional moments.
Their ceremony was warm, relaxed and filled with laughter, ending with that wonderful moment when Elle and Chris finally walked back down the aisle together as husband and wife.
Family, Friends & Confetti
After the ceremony, we headed into the grounds of Rainhill Hall for family photographs, confetti and a little time with everyone celebrating alongside Elle and Chris.
We like to keep group photographs relaxed and efficient. They are an important part of the wedding story, but they shouldn't mean disappearing from your guests for an hour. A little organisation, plenty of laughter and some gentle direction allows us to capture the photographs that matter while keeping the day flowing naturally.
Elle and Chris made this particularly easy. Their friends and family threw themselves into everything, from the large group photograph to the more spontaneous moments in between. The laughter, hugs and inevitable banter often produce some of our favourite images.
Then came the confetti — one of those wonderfully unpredictable moments where we simply let everyone enjoy themselves and capture whatever happens.
Speeches
Speeches are one of our favourite parts of a wedding day. They bring together stories, memories, laughter and emotion — and often reveal wonderful moments that nobody could have planned.
While attention naturally falls on the person speaking, we are constantly watching the rest of the room too. A parent quietly becoming emotional, friends collapsing into laughter, a knowing glance between the newlyweds — sometimes the most memorable photograph isn't of the person holding the microphone at all.
Elle and Chris's speeches gave us plenty to capture. There was laughter, emotion and the inevitable moments that had them both cringing and laughing in equal measure. Their reactions, and those of the people closest to them, told as much of the story as the speeches themselves.
This is where having two photographers can be particularly valuable — allowing us to capture the speaker and those fleeting reactions happening elsewhere in the room at the same time.
Creative Portraits Around Rainhill Hall
After the speeches, it was time to give Elle and Chris a little space together and create some portraits around the grounds of Rainhill Hall. Rather than taking couples away from their guests for long periods, we prefer to work in shorter sessions when the light, weather and atmosphere give us an opportunity.
Elle and Chris were completely at ease in front of our cameras. We kept things relaxed, allowing them to walk, talk and laugh together while offering direction only when it was needed. It gave us photographs that felt natural to them while still making the most of the beautiful surroundings.
Later in the evening, the weather changed dramatically. The rain arrived — and it certainly wasn't just a drizzle! Rather than bringing the photography to an end, we saw another opportunity.
With some creative lighting and a couple who were more than happy to embrace the weather, the rain became part of the photographs. Those evening portraits brought a completely different look to the gallery and became some of our favourite images from the day.
It is one of the reasons we never worry too much about the British weather. Sunshine, cloud or rain can all create something beautiful — sometimes the conditions you weren't hoping for produce photographs you never expected.
Evening Celebrations
Then came the party — and what a celebration it was! The chapel was transformed into a vibrant party space, and before long, it was absolutely packed. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, dancing, and the kind of joy that only a wedding can bring.
As the music softened and the lights dimmed, the dancefloor fell silent for one of the most special moments of the evening — Elle and Chris’s first dance as husband and wife. All eyes were on them as they moved together, completely lost in the moment, their love shining through in every glance and smile.
Next came a truly touching moment as Elle shared a dance with her dad. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room — a perfect mix of pride, emotion, and pure love. And as the song changed, they were soon joined by Chris, their daughter, and their family, creating the most heart-warming scene to begin what would be a night to remember.
It was the perfect ending to an incredible day — one filled with laughter, love, and memories that will last a lifetime.
